The star symbol often represents the desire to take back spaces that have traditionally been dominated by white, cis-gender, heterosexual men. The star symbol can take any form and be used to reclaim and reoccupy these public spaces– it serves as a template that translates into various forms for different people and communities.

Jacklyn Wang’s individual practice of clubbing and raving as a self care practice has evolved into safe space as a practice or workshop as safe space.

Her practice provides her a pocket of time to let go of the current reality, stress, and any feelings she wants to release and express through raving. She feels as she exists in the present to connect with others in a transcendental environment.

Her practice is translated into an auditory visual art practice as a tool or template for other people to create their own safe spaces beyond a rave space and focuses on community-building.

The practice is a shared language and visual representation with their own unique approach of reframing and creating a safe space reflecting their own values and experiences. This practice is for those who feel a connection to these experiences and to encourage individuals and communities to think creatively about how they can create safe spaces for diverse individuals.
